Pings are for tiny moments that don’t deserve a Slack thread or iMessage novel: ☕ Coffee?, a thumbs-up after a review, “you around?” They live in the Mac notch, stay invite-only, and stay out of your main chat apps.
Shipped in Notch Space 1.1.6 as a Beta feature.
Not another messenger
Pings only sync invite codes, friendships, and short nudge text so delivery works. Friend photos stay on your Mac and are never uploaded. Details are in the privacy policy.
If you need channels, reactions history, and file threads, use a real chat app. If you need a soft pulse for a small circle, Pings is the narrower tool.
What’s included
- Invite-only friends: copy your code, paste theirs
- Multi-send: one nudge to several people
- Quick Pings: one-tap chips like ☕ Coffee?
- Live receive: soft HUD pulse on the collapsed notch; expand for the full moment
- Mute: block inbound nudges anytime
- Spam guard: short cooldown between pings to the same person
How to turn it on
- Open Settings → Beta → Pings
- Set your name and copy your invite code
- Add a friend’s code
- Expand the notch → Pings → pick people → send
When it fits
Pings fits households, coworking pairs, or a tiny team that already over-notifies in Slack. It does *not* replace group chat.
Most other Notch Space tools stay fully on-device. Pings is the exception that needs a little sync to deliver. Everything else in the hub (clipboard, shelf, widgets, focus) still works offline-first.
Try it with one person
One friend, one week, three real nudges. If it feels lighter than texting, keep Beta on. If it feels like noise, mute or disable it.
Grab the latest build from the download page. Lifetime licenses include Pings updates as the Beta matures.
